Offering nail care services for financial compensation without the required state license is a criminal offense subject to prosecution as a Class 1 misdemeanor. Anyone selling nail care services in Virginia must have a license posted for customers to view including all training apprentices or they can be reported for violation.

Nail Salon Basics & Sanitation  T301

This course is great for apprentices or nail techs in training to keep your clients and salon safe. With this course they will be better prepared to offer services in your salon. Understanding of client retention and relations. Understand the nail salon atmosphere, learn safety procedures.

Learn the basics of Manicuring with exposure to tools, supplies and equipment. Understand state violations and ergonomics.  Discussion on how to perform safe services plus proper disinfection and sanitation procedures. Understanding of safe service procedures. Explaination of the regulations from the DPOR board for cosmetology relating to providing nail services.  

Recommended for new licensed or unlicensed first working with nails

Advance Manicure & Pedicure T302

Learn the art of Manciuring and Pedicuring. Understand state violations, proper form and filing techniques. Professional polishing tutorial. Time saving options, effective callus removal techniques. Discussion on spa services including products. Understand sanitation procedures, state violations, proper form and filing techniques. Professional lasting polishing tutorial. Understanding client comfort, time saving options and effective callus treatment. Massage techniques. Discussion on spa services including pedicure products.
Experience with some manicures and pedicures required
Not helpful for those that have done mani/pedis for a long time

Intro to Electric Filing T303

Learn how to properly use a drill. Discussion on sanding bands verses carbide bits. This technique is a MUST for all nail techs to stay competitive in todays industry! Don't fear the drill, your customers will desire you and appreciate the rare Techs that know how to use a drill correctly. 
Recommended for those first learning how to use a nail drill

Intro to Gel Polishing T304

Are you frustrated with Soft Gel Polish application when using products like Shellac*, OPI Gelcolor*, Gelish*, etc?  Discussion on the different products out there so you don't have to spend a fortune on trying them all. Proper application techniques and tricks plus problem solving questions answered. Removal techniques and minor discussion on gel powder products. 
Recommended to those that have done less than 20 sets of gel polish or for those really struggling with the service and having serious issues.

This is for those that have never really applied acrylic nails. Learn the basics of acrylic application. Understanding of filing, adhesion, tip application and proper ball ratios.

So you can apply acrylic but it's not the best and sometimes you have issues, this class is for you. Tutorial about the different Acrylic products. Review of multiple color techniques. Discussion on how to compete against discount nail salons.

Introduction to Nail Salon Business T308

Learn more about the salon business especially if you are interested in owning your own salon. Figure out what beauty business is your fit: salon, spa, single staffed, ect. Discussion on understanding the responsiblities of ownership and the pros/cons of expansion including incorporating. Exposure to nail product brands and suppliers. Understanding Self-Employment in the salon industry including slow & busy seasons. Optional understanding of salon business management, staffing, marketing options (including online) and financial responsibility & obligations. Understanding Profit and Loss in the salon industry. Discussion on the available appointment scheduling options today, POS and credit card acceptance, etc related to salon business. Don't invest into opening a salon business without knowing the pros & cons of self employment plus what to and what not to do based on your goals and limitations.

State Board Practical Preparation T309

Approved already and getting ready to take the Virginia State Board Practical Nail Exam? Or did you fail the practical exam. We can help you prepare for it if you feel that you are not ready or an understanding of how to take the practical exam. We will also provide a list of supplies needed at the state practical exam.  

Must be pre-approved to take exams and/or failed a practical exam

When are Lab days?

These Lab Training classes are made by appointment based on instructor availability. Book 15-30 days ahead for the best times. Multiple Labs are usually taken on a Sun or Mon between 9am-7pm. Single Labs are available Mon-Wed between 9am-4pm. Thur & Fri 9-4 openings are rare and vary each month. Saturdays are available at different times in the year. Lab training is not offered online at this time.

 

How much are Labs?
All Lab Tutorials are $200 each. Each Lab Tutorial is about two hours long as private one on one training. 

DPOR Licensed Estheticians, Cosmetologist, or Nail Techs including Licensed Massage Therapists get $25 off each class. Take $25 off additional same day Lab Classes.
Succesfully paid prior graduates only pay $100 for Labs 
 
I'm interested how do I sign up?
If you want to take a tutorial class at the school, email sales@vanailschool.com to request your date and class and ask your questions directly to the instructor. You can call 434-598-6245 to leave a message to get a call back.
 
How do I pay for the Labs?
An invoice can be emailed to you to pay for your tutorial lab online. Payment can be made by mail with a check or money order sent to Virginia Nail School. Payment can be made by phone. Payment can be made at the paypal link at the top of this page. 
 
How do I pick a date?
Contact the school by phone message or email to request your date. The selected date is not held in any way (even by phone or email) until it is paid for. This means that if someone else wants your unpaid for date and pays first, it is theirs. 
 
What do I bring to Lab Training?
You do not have to bring anything unless you have questions about your own product or your favorite acrylic brush. Friends and co workers can not attend any classes with you unless they are also paying for the training too.
