Requirements to take our course
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Age 16 or older on first class day
- Upper body mobility to file and apply product (we have assessable entry, bathroom, seating and hallways)
- ability to communicate in English at class
- ability to read English comprehension
ID REQUIREMENTS (pick one group):
A valid SSN or Virginia DMV ID is required
- Any state Driver's License + a Social Security Card or ITIN card
- Virginia DMV ID or Driver's License
- US Passport + Social Security or ITIN card
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- High School diploma is not needed
- 7th grade Math skills
- 10th grade English Reading & English Comprehension skills
- We only teach our course in English
SUPPLIES:
- Good Internet access for online study
- Buy a Kit here or get Sanitation, Mani, Pedi, Gel & Acrylic service supplies for home. Supplies are here to use.
- Smart phone, tablet, computer or laptop with internet to do online book study up to 10 hours per week.
AFTER FINISHING HERE:
- $99 to take theory exam in Richmond, Fredricksburg, Charlottesville, Chantilly, Harrisonburg, Alexandria, Lynchburg, Virginia Beach or online. $99 per try to pass.
- $95 to take the practical exam on a Tue in Richmond, Lynchburg or Virginia Beach. The supplies will cost $100-150 (we have a kit for $150 ready to go). $95 is per try to pass.
- After passing both exams send in the $120 license fee immediately to get your license to avoid paying to retake exams.
- Pay DPOR every two years a renewal fee to stay licensed or transfer to another state.
Payments can be by debit, card, cash, cashier check, personal check or zelle.
FINANCING WITH KLARNA, AFFIRM OR APPLE PAY:
- Credit check approval required with higher interest based on creditworthiness
- considered a "paid in full" student here to attend when ready and released when passed
- kit purchase can be added to application to pick up here after approved
OTHER COSTS:
- About $100-150 of items will be needed to take the state exam
- $194 to take state exams (paid to the exam center after paying in full and passing the course)
- $120 for Nail License paid after passing state exams
- travel costs to Palmyra Virginia for 16 (8W) or 10 (10W) classes
- travel costs to take State Exams at various locations throughout Virginia
NON VIRGINIA RESIDENT:
- Students do not have to live in Virginia
- A Virginia Nail License can only sell nail care services in Virginia
- VA Nail License can transfer into other states to become multi state licensed. Each State's requirements vary. Contact your state's cosmetology board to understand reciprocity/transfers.
- Anyone can have multiple state nail licenses to sell nail care in multiple states. We have had many students come here from outside Virginia (that live on state borders) to work in multiple states.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND: (we have had students with convictions get their Nail License)
- Disclose previous/current regulatory board professional licenses denials and disiplinary actions from any state for review after finishing a course.
- Those with criminal convictions must disclose their violation for approval considered by the state board AFTER completion of a course and passing the state exams.
- Disclose felonies within the last 10 years
- Criminal Conviction Form required to fill out if you have a misdemeanor/felony described above (State/Court records needed)
- Those that do not disclose the proper information may have their application denied and/or very long delays in processing
- Any disclosure at the school of criminal history will be kept 100% confidential from other students and outside the school
- Decision can now be made for licensing by the state licensing department before you go to beauty school to see if you can get licensed based on your felony charge
